Anglo Scot Douglas Fraser, business and economy editor (about which he knows very little) at BBC Scotland, called The National, the only pro-independence paper in Scotland, ‘propaganda’ on a Radio 4 programme. The psychological term which best characterises Fraser’s remark is ‘projection’ - when an individual unconsciously projects their thoughts, feelings and behaviours onto someone else. The real purveyor of propaganda is, of course, Fraser’s employer - the BBC.
A National reader nailed it with this comment:
“The BBC, an organisation with no sense of self irony. In England, the water companies are discharging raw sewage into the river ways, and in Scotland the unionist media are metaphorically doing the same thing into the media channels.”
It’s no mystery why more and more Scots are refusing to pay the unionist media poll tax, aka the BBC licence fee. They see the BBC’s blatant anti-Scottish bias and BBC Scotland reminds them on a daily basis how awful their nation is.
Tony Blair wouldn’t permit Scotland to have its own national broadcaster because he understood the power of an independent media in influencing public opinion which is why under the devolution settlement, the broadcasting sector remains reserved to the UK.
The BBC reflects England, not Scotland. 89% of the UK population lives south of the border. BBC network news is all about England - Scotland is only ever mentioned in passing and when it is, it’s usually negative. I have intelligent friends in London who are absolutely convinced that their taxes are subsidising poor little Scotland because that’s what they’ve been told.
The BBC’s organisation, power and network commissioning is centred in England and the BBC doesn’t spend as much in Scotland as it takes in licence fees.
Its news reporters are no more than glorified secretaries dutifully regurgitating what they are told by the UK government which in turn obeys the powerful right-wing corporate media controlled by, among others, the Barclay Brothers, Lord Rothermere, Rupert Murdoch, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos and Evgeny Lebedev.
It takes some doing to untangle the web of corporate media ownership. Even The National is owned by Newsquest, which is owned by American mass media holding company Gannett, which is owned by the New Media Investment Group, which is managed and controlled by private equity firm, Fortress Investment Group, which is owned by Japanese conglomerate Softbank.
All the cards - economic, social, political, cultural - are stacked against Scotland. It can never be an equal citizen in this sham union.
Yes, Scotland having its own broadcasting would be dangerous, to Westminster's control of Scotland. Look at the timeline from when Alex Salmond was being considered for a senior position of the Johnson Press, some 300 publications, including the Scotsman.
Early November 2017
Alex Salmond announces that he will be Chair (?) of Johnson Press. This follows "negotiations" by investor Christen Ager-Hanssen to take control of the Johnson Press board. Therefore would be no secret to those in the know, or having the need to know.
December 2017
Scottish Government start informal contacts with women alleging sexual misconduct by Salmond.
January 2018
Changes to the Scottish Ministerial Code. (changes also to the UK Miniserial Code)
As they say the rest is history, although still ongoing, Alex Salmond is still waiting to have his misfeasance legal case against civil servants heard. It would appear to be a delay. With purpose?
It's a wonder the SNP are in government at all, given the massive odds stacked up against them, and the ofdds stacked up against Scotland in general. I stopped buying 'The National' ages ago when it appeared they were not particularly pro SNP, which surely would make sense given they are supposed to be pro independence, and in fact they seemed to be giving Labour a platform and it was painting them in a somewhat more positive light! So I have thought it's a bit of a Trojan horse really. It's amazing what sort of language, grammer, wording being used can influence people so easily.
I have a book from the 1960's called 'Natural Resources in Scotland', 700+ pages of it, but notice it doesn't say Scotland's resources, because that would indicate ownership. I too have friends and family in England who were so anti SNP in 2014, I remember well, they cr*p they came out with, ''I divvant like that Alic Salmond mind'' , ''what''ll yous do withoot the oil like?'', and sigh, ''you are basing your decision on emotions not facts'', and, ''you just want a utopia!''... some sort of cam eto realise Scotland is shafted but most still believe that England subsidises Scotland. Just send more cash I say, I mean we in Scotland need be kept living in the lifestyle to which we have become aquainted, luxury. Now where's my butler! Bring the Limo Jeeves! These English starff are so lazy you know! ;-)
The BritNat EngGovs' lies, scheming, scamming and thieving is going on right under the noses of the Scottish people. The BritNat English and their dodgy pals' 'media' propaganda assault on Scotland is effective otherwise they would not deploy it.
We all need to get behind the SNP and make sure they do a sterling job at the next election in 2026, otherwise it's back to full on English rule, English breakfast, lunch and dinner, non of your Scotland the brand silly stuff anymore, no Scottish language or culture except a bit of tartan at the tattoo.
North Britain, poor, stupid, and very very tiny, (wee and my will they punish Scotland. I fear there are factions posing as pro 'indy' who stand at elections etc and more will be deployed in 2026 much to the detriment of Scotland.
