Trump attacks the First Amendment
Like all previous US presidents, Trump is controlled by Israel
Many people condemned President Biden’s attacks on free speech during last spring’s US college campus protests against Israel’s genocide, but now the attacks are continuing and accelerating under President Trump.
Just a month ago, Trump grandly proclaimed to Congress:
After years and years of illegal and unconstitutional federal efforts to restrict free expression, I will also sign an executive order to immediately stop all government censorship and bring back free speech to America.
That didn’t last long.
Last week’s arrest of Columbia University graduate Mahmoud Khalil by federal ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) agents, is a clear cut violation of his First Amendment rights.
Khalil, who helped organise last spring’s pro-Palestinian protests on Columbia’s campus, is a recent graduate of Columbia’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and a green card holding legal permanent US resident. Green card holders’ rights are protected by the US Constitution. Georgetown University Law Professor David Cole explained:
The First Amendment does not distinguish between citizens and non-citizen. Therefore, since you couldn't punish a citizen for their speech, you couldn't deport a foreign national for their speech.
Without a search or arrest warrant, ICE agents broke into Khalil’s apartment, handcuffed him and took him away from his US citizen wife who is 8 months pregnant. He was flown 1,000 miles away to Louisiana where he is being detained in the notorious Jena/LaSalle Detention Facility in Jena, La.
The ICE charging document lists no crime, no facts, no misbehaviour, no evidence of wrongdoing. Nevertheless, ICE and Secretary of State Rubio allege that Khalil’s physical presence in the US impedes the effective execution of Israeli - I mean, US - foreign policy.
Meanwhile, the US continues to arm and fund the genocidal Israeli regime that has just cut off electricity, water, food and medicine to over a million Gazans and is rampaging through the illegally occupied West Bank, terrorising and murdering the indigenous Palestinians.
Its psychotic leader is also desperate to start yet another war, this time with Iran, which would ignite a regional war that could turn global.
The deranged and depraved state of Israel and its Zionist backers represent the single greatest threat not only to US free speech and security but to world security. Until the US has a leader willing to stand up to this tiny terrorist state, there won’t be peace.
