UK is complicit in Gaza genocide
A guest letter from Andy Anderson, published in The National on January 17th, 2024. A characteristic of failing states like the US and UK is that their behaviour towards other nations becomes ever more belligerent and bullying as they rely solely on military force to get their way, and completely abandon diplomacy. Leaving the failing UK will not only restore Scotland’s distinct international voice but also help England come to terms with the fact that it is no longer a great power.
The weak UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunk, and equally weak Leader of the opposition, Sir Keir Starmer, have followed US orders to become involved with its military action against the people of the Yemen, one of the poorest nations on earth.
They claim that this action is in defence of international shipping in the Red Sea, but it is quite clear that it is in support of the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza which has killed nearly 30,000 people.
If the US/UK wanted to ensure that ships would not be attacked from the Yemen or anywhere else all that they needed to do is tell President Biden to stop this genocide now by stopping the flow of arms and funding to the Israeli government. It could be done tomorrow and is something they should have demanded long before now.
To bomb the Yemen, which has suffered so much from the recent UK and US-backed war against Saudi Arabia, is a weak and cowardly act and shows the UK up for the pathetic international figure it has become.
