A letter from Andy Anderson on the UK media’s hysterical reaction to the death of Alexei Navalny and its relative silence about the persecution of Julian Assange and the ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which the UK is complicit.
I note the reported death of Alexei Navalny in a Russian prison and the UK media’s response to this news.
I don’t know, and the UK media doesn’t know, the cause of this man’s death, but that has not stopped them from claiming that he was murdered by Russian President Putin. It seems to me that if Vladimir Putin was the wicked schemer he’s claimed to be, then he might have considered that now would not be a good time to murder Alexei Navalny. After all, Navalny was in prison and posed no threat to his re-election, so why would he do this now?
Well, we’re told, President Putin is evil and brutal and determined to crush any opposition and Navalny was exposing him by telling the truth.
We can all acknowledge that evil and brutal people can treat people terribly just for telling the truth and exposing them. Indeed, we have the example of what is now happening to Julian Assange, but was there a good reason to kill Navalny now?
However, let’s accept all the western media speculation that Navalny was in fact murdered. Why does his suspected murder demand more attention than the actual murder of hundreds of men, women and children in Gaza every single day?
Do the people in Gaza merit less attention than this one man’s death?
After all, if this man was indeed murdered by the Russian State, there isn’t much we can do about it but complain. However, the killings in Gaza are likely to be considered by the ICJ as genocide, and by assisting the perpetrators - Israel and the US - the UK is likely to be found guilty of assisting in this crime.
I would have thought that before we start searching around the world for suspected murderers, we should condemn our “friends” for imprisoning a man who exposed US war crimes, and for committing the most heinous crime of all - genocide.
Yep. The Scottish media is just as captured by the Putin is evil narrative.
Assange and the Palestinian people do not matter to the Western and even across the globe leaders/people in power. Navalny was an onvious threat to Putin, due to his popularity. Putin is just another justice avoiding criminal dictator, seems to be a trend these days. How Navalny died we will probably never know, hopefully his family will get some closure though. The fact is, fascism is winning, and they are widening the net, the rich powerful criminals are, maybe more so since the pandemic, criminalising those who dare to question their dicatorships and the UK Eng establishment/government are fast moving into that arena. I fear for the future, for our young people, and for the planet quite frankly.
What gets me is, watching the 'police' thugs in Russsia beat people up for laying flowers on a memorial, and those IDF terrorist thugs in Israel, follow orders so willingly, that's the terrifying aspect of the actions of humans, what will they NOT do for money and a litlle bit of power. My father served in the Brit army, he told me a few things later in his life about how they were brainwashed, (he wasn't having any of it and most lower ranks saw through that) into thinking anyone they were in combat with or even innocent people fleeing war in the jungles of Malayia, were a threat to you personally and even your family. back home. He and his fellow soldiers didn't always follow orders from the higher ranks, like being told to march a heavily pregnat woman walk ten miles through the jungle for example, it was the deep jungle after all.
The 'media' is just a propaganda tool for rich oligarchs, and it's why they also hate 'social media' because it can reach out to people without the obvious agenda. Also what is it that Israel has that disables whole powerful countries into staying silent on a genocide going on in front of their noses...hm, I wonder.
