On this Burns Night, Fraser McAllister has kindly given me permission to publish his letter which appeared in The Scotsman this past Wednesday. As a child growing up in Salina, Kansas, my local library was a Carnegie Library, a lovely old red brick building surrounded by tall oak trees. I loved going there and finding a quiet corner in which to read.
Like many of our people who uncritically accept the prevailing msm line, Fraser appears to have missed the ongoing national liberation of Americans who are taking their country back from oppressive woke neo-imperialism; just as he perhaps misses the ongoing colonial reality of Scots who remains subject to these and other oppressive forces - hence our desire for national liberation too.
As for Rabbie Burns, I suspect he would have been a big supporter of President Trump's liberation of Americans, as well as the liberation of Scots and Scotland.
And, as a former Carnegie Scholar, I would urge people to develop the capacity for critical thinking. Scotland's colonial reality is not really that difficult to understand, but is essential to finding the anely remeed - leeberation.
tRump is forcing 'immigrants' onto planes deporting them in their thousands as we speak, despite the courts ruling it's wholly unconstitutional. I would hope R. Burns would find that abhorrent as any decent person should.
Everything has to be looked at in context Hetty , it is the same for Scotland , there are many establishment figures calling for immigration due to the shortage of indigenous births ,but those establishment figures are the ones who have created that shortage by forcing young people to chose whether they can afford to have children or survive adequately and comfortably
Another reason for the forced emigration of people is the consistent bombing of their home countries by the uk and usa governments under the guise of democracy but the hawks are in the pocket of the arms industry
I have posted several times on different blog sites about the despicable actions of Australian immigrants in October 2023 against the indigenous Aboriginal natives when they ASKED for a permanent seat in the Australian parliament to oversee policies that affect the indigenous natives directly
A referendum was actioned where the immigrants REFUSED that permanent seat , SCOTS take notice
A similar situation is almost a reality in relation to Scotland's independence where our incomers have already determined that we MUST remain shackled to a vile abusive union partner
My son when at primary school, tasked to recite this Burns poem, so called teaching staff told me could I ask him to tone it down, he was reciting it like it was meant! Great I thought, no and well done.
At the risk of appearing pedantic and picky, may I leap to the defence of the glass-eyed community and have it recorded for posterity and sundry arrant poets that tears of empathy and sympathy are indeed shed from glass eyes. No offence intended Hetty, Burrrrrrrns was the greatest.
Not a Haggis in site in our 'local' BritNat shops, not even 'Scot'Mid...did buy some 'Saltire empire' biscuits the other day tho just to try, yuk. Scottish company who appear to have since removed the Saltire from their potatoe scones...oh well won't be buying them again.
Scotland you are not allowed your own culture, get the bells on your tassles for Morris dancer night!

I hadn't ever seen that Burns quote there, bring a tear to a glass eye, so it would. :-)

Your words will be misconstrued by many, Alf, but your integrity in saying them can't be doubted.
Since its that time of year when Scots are permitted tae gaither roond oor withered mither tongue for a day or so:
Doun-Hauden
Alf Baird
Bourdieu telt us, oor cultur’s the ki
We lairn oor cultur as bairns, on grannie’s knee
Anely tae forfaut thon in colonial schuils
Creenge’s aw aboot! Tho A’m nae fuil
Langage is the verra foond o cultur
Oor braw Scots langage comes fae the hert, no yon gutter
We’re makkit Englis tae get on, Anglo bools in yer mooth
Yet ma mither tongue is nivver fae sooth
Croods o Scots cast oot thair ain laund
Supplantit bi yon Anglophone meritocratic baund
Thay fowk cruin the Union pairty sang
Mak shuir o Scots leid’s deith stang
Frantz Fanon wad hiv nae doot
Scotlan’s a donsie wee colonie, its taes nar oot
Juist lyke India, Kenya, Ireland or Algeria
Colonialists wrack native cultur, makkit gae heeligoleerie
Naitional consciousness isnae nationalism
Scots appen yer een, kest oot thon tirranies
Englan’s Anschluss, A Scotlan dashelt
A Union wi nae veto? Scots dae whit yer telt!
Estaiblishment Scotlan, A joub mankit cesspit
Thay haud doon oor fowk, maks loass o speerit
Dicht claen Scotlan’s maukit unionist slump
Kest oot thon British yoke, thay can tak a lang hyke
Thon Union Treaty’s a muckle fankle
Soveranety aye haundit tae a bunkle
Maks Scotlan a wee pouerless colonie
‘Leeberty’ fowk cry, lat’s awa fi sic joukerie
Scots cultur gies us belangin, an oor ain naitional identitie
Denee’d o yer leid, Scots are rind duffie
Colonised fowk aye quaisten thair wirth
Ethnic doun-hauden maks Scots aflocht
Sel-determination’s oor richt, on Scots Claim therrs nae dout
Tho bewaur tratours, deceiverie an clout
An ivery day mair Anglophones muve in aw the whill
Stowenlins Scottis soveranety, if ye staun by – tak it thay wull
