I recently received a circular letter sent out under the name of John Swinny. It would have gone
to all Members. I responded by saying Dear John. ETC. Making some points which thought weere important.
I received a wooly reply signed by someone. I emailed back asking Did John Swinny ever see my email and did he see the reply to me ? Weeks have passes and I have not yet received a reply.
That's so disappointing. It's clear our politicians stopped listening to the people some time ago. I've learned the only way to get their attention back to us is threaten them with losing their seats. That tends to concentrate their minds.
Shameful but not unexpected. Same story as when we tried to deliver the Stirling Directive. I was there and it demonstrated how little the government we elect cares for the people of Scotland. It's time we reminded them that we, not they, are Sovereign.
Thanks, Leah, This is a clear explanation of the current situation and the way to move forward in the independence struggle. You are right John Swinney's own words at the SNP conference this year, make the position clear. Trust the Scottish people and give them the tools to do the job.
We understand what that means, make sure the Scottish People get full access to the UN Human Rights they are entitled to, and don't let the Westminster establishment prevent this. Then the Scottish People will have a voice and will use it as an effective "tool" to secure independence.
This is clear we can understand this we know exactly what it means. What does John Swinney mean by his Conference statement?
Thanks for this. Looks like the ScotGov (SNP) are somewhat feart about including UN laws regarding sovereignty into Scots Law? Hmm, what's their deal then I wonder. Several scenarios spring to mind as to the reasons. Still pretty damn shoddy and disrespectful to reply via a civil servant, rather than direct from the recipient of your letter. Aren't civil servants in Scotland installed by the English government based in London...not that it makes much difference in this case, but they do cost quite a bit to the public purse in Scotland. Hmm.
The text of the Petition has been agreed with the Parliament Admin service and is due to be published in early January. ScotGov must reply with written comment within 30 days from publication. Then the parliamentary committee - the CPPPC, unionist controlled (3-2) chairman Jackson Carlaw - has to consider the two positions Petition and ScotGov - and recommend appropriate action. The Petition requests Parliament to urge ScotGov to implement the International Covenant on Civil & Political Rights (ICCPR) for devolved matters and Art 25 thereof provides access to Direct Democracy. In other words, Popular Initiatives and Referendums. Art 1 is about Self-Determination of nations. The UK ratified ICCPR in 1976 but has done nothing about it. 2025 is going to be a very interesting year….

I am not holding my breath.

Looking forward to the petition, excellent. :-)

Unfortunately recent polls suggest that they are not about to lose their seats. Clearly they think we are the great unwashed.
Please feel free to copy the RSS letter to send to your MSPs. We must make their lives as uncomfortable as possible.
The alternative is terrifying however, an English party installed (again) at Holyrood does not bear thinking about quite frankly.
