Agree with almost all of this. I don't trust BRICS to be a "force for good" either.

Perhaps not, but a multipolar world will be a more stable world. And it does seem that the BRICS nations are determined to adhere to int’l law and respect national sovereignty, neither of which the US has done.

Yes, we have to hope that multipolar will be more stable. The US certainly has a horrendous record.

Hi Janice,

It stands for the original members - Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa but has expanded to ten member state representing 36% of global GDP. Here's the link to the BRICS portal: https://infobrics.org

From the BBC website (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-66525474), a good description of what the BRICS organisation is and why it was formed:

In 2006, Brazil, Russia, India and China created the "Bric" group. South Africa joined in 2010, making it "Brics".

The group was designed to bring together the world's most important developing countries, to challenge the political and economic power of the wealthier nations of North America and Western Europe.

Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were invited to become members with effect from 1 January 2024.
