Good on Fergus Ewing with his detailed input and a surprisingly positive response from Maurice Golden, although he may be making mischief. Carlaw as expected.
Surprised the petition has not had a better return. There is no plan for independence right now, we’re drifting. We have no charismatic leader willing to bring everyone together and make a definitive plan of action. If the SNP would work with other Indy groups it would make such a difference.
Thanks, Leah, for this comprehensive report on this important petition.
The way that the Committee Convener failed to fully report the issue and treated with contempt the thousands of people who had signed the petition while announcing with a laugh that he was going to move to reject the petition is very interesting and displays a level of disinterest in the petitions they have before them which is breathtaking.
Well done. Clearly Fergus Es comments were crucial- it is hugely disappointing that all MSPs are not attuned to the implications or at least the need to clarify the issues raised by the petition. Similarly getting 40k signatures from the Yes movement should be possible - got ideas on how best to do this?
First, we are relying on people who have signed it - including, you, Bill - to get their family, friends and colleagues to follow suit. This is about Scottish self determination, something all Scots should be able to agree on.
Second, if you are a member of an organisation that agrees that the Scottish People should have the right to decide the government best suited to their needs, please ask them if they would support the petition and urge their members to do so. It could be Friends of the Earth, Scottish CND, Greenpeace, a trade union, the Church of Scotland, or any other civic organisation.
