I think we also need to recognise the role that we played in the British Empire, but yes, absolutely agree.

Most Scots had no part in the 'empire' and if Scotland had remained a sovereign state, I doubt it would have committed the atrocities England did during its 'empire' days.

Absolutely Leah and the English do not hold back in telling us how Scotland was involved in 'British' colonialism, in an attempt to imply Scotland was just as bad as England. There are always a few (bad apples) in any country when there's a confict and/or colonisation, who willingly do the main perpetrators' bidding. :-/ We see it now at the Scottish parliament and in Scottish (coalition) unionist councils.

My father served in the 'British' English army in the 1950's (post world war no other options to avoid destitution) he had nothing good to say about the Brits (English) and only told me snippets of how cruel and barbaric they were, though apparently some of the lower ranks did not tolerate it, they were in the middle of the thick jungle. He made some good Scottish friends during his time served in India, Malayia and stationed in various places.

The English like to try portray Scots as mean and cruel, when the fact is Scotland was colonised and the people horribly brutalised, by the country next door. Scotland is still a colony, and at this time, even more scary to be shackeld to the country next door.
