I wrote this in answer to a January 17th letter in The Scotsman from a gentleman who resides down in Kent - that’s England - and who expresses his view that Scotland would never be able to subsist, let alone survive, outwith the protective arms of the UK. It shows how heavily propagandised folks are down there but the propaganda, courtesy of the mainstream unionist media, is also pretty bad up here.
Wouldn’t it be amazing to have our own Scottish media outlets, untainted by an overbearing England’s colonial drivel? But to have that, we must stop asking and just take our independence.
Doug Morrison from Kent in England asks how Scotland can possibly survive outwith the union. The question should be how can the UK possibly survive without Scotland?
Scotland, with just 8.3% of the UK population possesses 34% of its natural wealth. The Tory-devised GERS accounts falsely depict Scotland as an economic basket case. GERS is used to dump a chunk of the UK’s considerable debt onto Scotland. Over the last 43 years, Scotland has been charged £150 billion for debt interest payments on UK debt it didn’t create and hasn’t benefited from and is charged billions for spending outside Scotland that doesn’t help our economy.
Then there’s the small matter of the UK having stolen our oil wealth worth hundreds of billions of pounds and squandered it on tax cuts, mass privatisations, English infrastructure projects and nuclear weapons. Scottish oil has repeatedly bailed out a sinking UK economy. In return, Thatcher shut down Scotland’s industries, destroying entire communities.
Scottish renewable energy is the next big revenue bonanza for the failing UK. £600 billion of Scottish renewable electricity is being cabled to England each year without any compensation for the Scottish People. By 2030, the UK government expects the amount of renewable energy sent south to rise to 124 TWh, worth an estimated £2.12 trillion.
If Scotland is such a financial drain on poor England, it should be eager to cut us loose. But it keeps us in its colonial vice-grip because it’s dependent on our wealth.
It’s up to the sovereign Scottish People to reclaim their nation from its colonial overlord.
Spot on Leah, ‘a whole new inexaustable oil and gas industry ahead’ in renewables which is the most energetic in Europe both wind and tide. The topography of our western coastline says it all with wind and wave 💨 👋 set to get even stronger. Why then we ask, given that this new energy will mainly come from Scotland does the national grid datum sit somewhere in Essex giving us the biggest tarrif in the UK to use it? Another stealth tax.
It must be fairly obvious to people like Doug Morrison, in spite of the powerful media propaganda that a UK Government, which is not noted for its generousity to foreigners should be prepared, year after year, to keep subsidising the Scots. Surely they must ask themselves what is in it for the UK? If they thought about it they must realize that the propaganda is a bit strange, surely something must come from Scotland? Douglas Morrison should know that he got his name from Scotland.
