A follow up. The use of 'UK' and 'Britain' as synonyms for England reveals the elite mindset of Scotland as an annexed dependency, like NI or Wales. The very different response to the murderous Southport rampage shows how, as with the Brexit vote, Scotland retains a distinct and separate identity despite 300 years of attempted assimilation.

Leah asks: "Isn’t Scotland tired of being tarred with the UK brush?" Yes indeed (although Channel 4's presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy apologised for conflating England and UK after Scottish viewers had complained). Let's be clear that conflation is a long-standing colonialist tactic: it doesn't just wrongly spread the blame to its subject nations, it also infers that such subject nations have no identity or separate culture. It is a clear example of English nationalism and presumed superiority. It's something we Scots have to call out as it pervades every aspect of our lives from weather forecasts to the media and news broadcasts.

The riots appear, Belfast excepted, to be confined to England. I can't find a report of any in Wales. But, details aside, the point is entirely valid.

I woukdnt get so cosy in the way things are in Scotland right now. They are targeting schemes where there's a lot of sufferring. Unless we get in there and direct anger towards those in governmmets, then others will get in before us and direct anger towards those who don't deserve it. Its a matter of time.

Indeed, and things are bad for the poorest and most vulnerable due to English gov austerity, Brexit and resulting unemployment and of course the long long legacy of Labour, tory and LibDems' utterly disgraceful neglect and non investment in Scottish communities etc.

The violent rioters may well be bussed into Scotland, put nowt past the Brit state and their dodgy pals abroad to keep Scotland under the Eng/British/GB massive and very heavy jackboot.

The ones who paint their ugly faces and wear masks, likely the paid ops ones.

I don't suppose Starmer will find any money to help rebuild the communities they are destroying.

Have any of them been arrested and facing being locked up for years for their disgusting acts of violence? Didn't think so.
