It's maddening that so many people still do not know who Labour is and who's interests they are there to represent. Folk are hanging on to 'give them more time'. Nothing they have said signals anything will change to benefit ordinary folk. That would require a complete reversal of their economic plan.

Yes indeed, the chemistry of politics, stirring the pot, added toxins so the sc*m comes to the top.

I don't understand why the SNP don't just tell it like it is, the truth about England thieving so much from Scotland by way of our massive resources and revenues (and land for various rich folks and various purposes), do they fear being called anti English? They need some clever slogans, maybe we can think some up for them? SNP need to make comparisons about Scotland vs England in terms of policy, and tell people in no uncertain terms that England's government once they retake power at Holyrood, will roll out English policy in Scotland, but in fact it will be much 'worse'! They need to be clever, use the language of the enemy against them! Use their words to describe what THEY are not doing to keep the lights on and keep people warm.

I watched some of the conference, much seemed to be SNP bashing fest to tell you the truth. Speakers complaining but making no reference to fact that Scotland is still mostly ruled by England from England.

The SNP need to start with making everyone in Scotalnd knows which powers are devolved and which are reserved to the EngGov in Westminster. Most people do not know who runs their council for heavens sake. Heard an old lady in a shop recently complaining about City of Edin buses, and the terrible SNP council, myself and another woman had to inform her that hte SNP do not run the council and therefore do not control what happens with the public owned, council controlled buses. sigh. Once upon a time the council would send a leaflet each year saying what peoples' money was being spent on, and poss even inform them who was their councillor and which party they represent. That info should be mandatory in whatever format people prefer. City of Edin LabConsLibdems council are quick enough to send nasty threatening letters if a person is a few days late paying their council tax, ( I missed apayment and received 'final warning' very threatening nasty letter in the post!, no leaway, no concern, no oh maybe you just forgot or have been unwell or in hospital so here's a wee reminder. No, they are chomping at the bit to get more money out of people by way of added on £'s 'fees' and even court fines! ) but not informing people who controls their council.

They say that a parent is as depressed as their most depressed child, no doubt the opposite is also true.

It's hard not to feel very down in this dysfunctional oligarch of a so called UK, the attacks on the poor and vulnerable are deliberate, in England their government are cutting back on funding for education, now that is very telling and criminal actually. They see the young as cannon fodder, not educated people with a future to look forward to. The mega rich have their massive underground bunkers already built, small towns with all the facilities, for when they do actually condemn earth and the 98% armageddon.

Ps, when I first moved to Scotland, thirty four years ago we'd drive to Glasgow and along the M8 see sprayed on a bridge, 'English go home', I used to think yikes that's us! Now I understand what they meant and why.

The SNP don't tell it like it is because they are a colonial administration, working for the British state.

Leah asks: "The Right Honourable Lucy Powell, leader of the House of Commons, claimed “there was no alternative” to axing the Winter Fuel Allowance - otherwise the UK economy would have come crashing down. Does anyone seriously believe this?"

What Lucy Powell is actually saying is "In the UK there is no alternative to positions of high power, in particular the economy, being in the hands of people who either have no understanding of how the economy actually functions (in which case why are the allowed to hold office?), or they do understand it but are quite prepared to lie to the populace about it in order to satisfy the greed of their funders (in which case why are the allowed to hold office?). This has been going on for decades.

I'm sorry to say that the high office holders of the SNP are no better informed and have supported neoliberal economic dogma consistently, despite a majority of the party membership being in favour of our own Scottish fiat currency and the benefits that that will bring to an independent Scottish state. A lot of hard work behind the scenes by Tim Rideout and others brought about that majority vote and, I suspect, will have to be repeated again as a foundation to a renewed plan for independence.

Yes, you're right, Ken. Either the "high office holders" are stupid when it comes to economics (and other matters) - or they are genuflecting to their donors. Most likely it's a combo of both.

The SNP as a colonial administration will, of course, be towing the same line.
