Welcome to Dear Scotland
I've finally taken the advice of my two kids and set up this Substack. For the past four years, I've written letters, primarily to the Scottish press, about why Scotland can and should once again be an independent nation.
Although I’m originally from the United States, I’ve lived in the UK, first in London and now in Edinburgh, for nearly 21 years. Since moving to Scotland in 2017, it quickly became apparent to me that this wee nation could be doing far better - economically, socially and politically - if it were actually governing itself, and not being governed (badly) by a government in London that clearly doesn’t have Scotland’s interests at heart. And it’s questionable whether Westminster has the interests of England, Wales or Northern Ireland at heart, either, but that’s for someone else to explore.
I will mainly be posting my letters to the Scottish press. Many are published, but many aren’t, so this will be a place for all of them to reside. I write on average 2-3 times per week and want to encourage readers to share what they read here, since my goal is to help others understand Scotland’s tremendous potential.
