I've finally taken the advice of my two kids to set up this substack. For the past four years, I've written letters, mainly to the Scottish press, about why Scotland can and should once again be an independent nation. Although I was born and raised in the United States, I’ve lived in the UK, first in London and now in Edinburgh, for nearly 21 years. Since moving to Scotland, it quickly became apparent to me that this small nation could be doing far better - economically, socially and politically - if it were actually governing itself, and not being badly governed by a government in London that clearly doesn’t have Scotland’s interests at heart. And it’s questionable whether Westminster has the interests of England, Wales or Northern Ireland at heart, either.
