Seems to me that the real growth industry in the UK today is leeching off of the state to make oneself rich, or richer, e.g. the City of London, the Royals (esp. Charlie and Wullie) and most MP's. The one thing they have in common is they act only for themselves, not the common good. Scammers, all.
The elephant in the room is Brexit..an economic and social self inflicted wound courtesy of England as Britain. In the capitalist dog eat dog world, predators offer no help to the wounded if they sniff blood and desperation. Was it Australia where they openly laughed at the pathetic trade deal the UK government signed up for simply because they needed it to look like the world was queuing up to trade with with them being now ' free from EU shackles'. Scotland had the savvy to know Brexit was folly but we were dragged along like an unwilling toddler on a leash.I hope to god that facts are being found as to exactly how quickly a newly independent Republic of Scotland can get back into the EU where we can be respected, have an equal voice as a partner and engage in trade again because things are going to get worse for the Union. Sadly of course we won't have any shiny talisman mini-royals to dangle in order to dazzle and tempt...just our skills, talents and ingenuity....oh dear...what a pity...never mind 😄🏴
Rejoining the EU is a decision for the Scottish People. Before a referendum on the issue in an independent Scotland, there should be a debate about the merits of EU membership and those of EFTA (European Free Trade Association) whose members are Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Lichtenstein. The UK was a former member of EFTA. EFTA provides full access to the Single Market without the constraints.
Scotland should retain its own currency, not join the Euro, as it would lose monetary control.
And I'm concerned at the EU Commission's extreme centralisation of power under VDL, the Commission's attempts to censor freedom of speech, and its warmongering stance vis-a-vis Russia and blind support of genocidal Israel. Unless Europe can coexist and trade peacefully with Russia, there will be no economic security or peace in Europe. And unless Europe finds it moral spine and takes a stand against the greatest crime of the 21st century, it will flounder.
I agree totally, I, like a lot of people often fail to distinguish between full EU & EFTA and of course our future within or outside either is a choice for the people of Scotland. If we did go down the full EU membership route I'd like to think we would at least have a bit more influence than we do within Westminster. I'm by no means an economist..in fact I'm pretty much numerically dyslexic but EFTA membership would seem a sensible option and having lived in Europe for ten years I had no problem with the Euro...but had no choice in the matter. Whatever currency we use, as long as I have enough to survive I'm a not very bothered happy bunny 😄
We did not want to continue with the current neoliberal policies which protect the rich and punish the poor. If/when Scotland becomes Independent we will need a government prepared to stand up for the majority of the people not a tiny rich minority that operate like parasites.
Now more than ever! Imagine what a beacon we could be if we could show that side of ourselves to the world especially freeing ourselves from the grip of such a corrupt, greedy and callous colonial system. We were a big influence on the Enlightenment movement for a reason. It would be so great to see what we could achieve unshackled from Westminster and it's gaslighting pack of media lackies! 🏴❤️🏴
Just to be clear the 'UK' did not 'eject itself from the EU', so many people across the globe do in fact believe that was the case, sigh.
No, England ( and Wales) ejected itself from the EU and dragged Scotland out of the EU against the wishes of 62%+ of the people of Scotland. Every single constituency in Scotland voted to remain in the EU. The city of Edinburgh 73% voted remain, I mean that's a clear majority far as I can see.
Also to add insult to injury, the Scottish government when they asked (lol) to be part of the post Brexit negotiations were laughed at and told to do one lolz!
The democratic deficit of the Brexit (Engexit) vote was and is, you'd hope, be something that would ensure Scotland would never want to be 'better' together', 'all in it together' or have anything at all to do with the 'UK' ever again.
I hear that most people in the 'UK' (England) now want to be back in the EU or to have special treatment re trade etc. Let's see what happens with that eh, shame the English folk didn't give a flying f when they voted to drag Scotland out of the EU and the EngGov did excatly the opposite of what the ScotGov advised in staying in the single market etc.
Scotland, get OUT of the BritNat regime, and decide which club you'd want to be part of, not what the country next door decides for you, before it's too late.

We can longer afford to have that class of people which we call politicians. Way, way beyond our means!

CORPORATION OF LONDON
Though it has been called the country of London, a bit like the vatican...economically and politically independent.
Unaccountable in every way
The neoliberal mantra - profits over people.
