The voice of reason once more Leah. Thanks for your sharp analysis and having the courage to speak up. Three things that seem sadly lacking in the current western context.

"Unless the West abandons financial capitalism and returns to industrial capitalism, there’s no way it can compete with China".

It's too late. The infrastructure and supply chains for the likes of shipbuilding and steelworks have gone. Along with the skills.

There is no desire among the politicians who are owned by the one percenters represented by the various lobby groups and vested interests.

As your two trading maps 25 years apart demonstrates - the West's China Crisis has arrived.

It'll be all over soon.

Can't see the so called liberal democracies being able to compete against a well entrenched state capitalist China.

Incisive article Leah, and the video should be made compulsory for all Scots as its lessons apply equally to our economy - except that the beneficiaries of the exploitation are the institutions of the colonial power. The natural public monopolies of our future Scottish state need to be owned by our people.

According to people I know, China and Russia are awful places to live because they don’t have freedom of speech, so I proceeded to list a number of people who’ve been arrested here in the UK for using their freedom of speech, and they’d never heard of any of them.

There is a huge amount of propaganda against both Russia and China by our lame stream corporate/security state controlled media. It's striking how easy it is for people to believe these lies without bothering to check other sources. I merely scan western media outlets like the BBC and NY Times to see what whoppers they are telling about the world, including Scotland, on any particular day. Then I go to independent journalists for what's really happening. I know I'm not alone. It's why trust in the so-called traditional media is cratering. All patriotic Scots should boycott the British State Broadcasting Corp or, at the very least, refuse to pay the licence fee.
